JOB OVERVIEW
The incumbent will be responsible for providing technical support to end-users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and maintaining the overall functionality of IT systems. This role is essential for ensuring smooth operations during the contract period and requires quick problem-solving skills, strong communication, and excellent customer service abilities.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Technical Support
- Provide technical support to internal and external end-users via phone, email, or in person.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, including operating systems, applications, and peripherals.
- Respond to IT calls and escalate issues as necessary.
System & Software Management
- Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, software, printers, and other peripheral devices.
- Assist with the installation and configuration of software applications and updates.
- Manage software licenses and ensure compliance with company policies.
Network Support
- Assist in maintaining networking infrastructure (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi), ensuring connectivity and stability.
- Troubleshoot network-related issues, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN problems.
- Ensure proper security measures are in place for network access.
Hardware Management
- Set up and configure new workstations, laptops, and other IT equipment.
- Maintain and track an inventory of all hardware assets.
- Diagnose and repair hardware failures or coordinate repairs with external vendors.
Data & Security Management
- Ensure data security and integrity by following proper backup and recovery procedures.
- Implement security measures, including antivirus, firewalls, and system patches.
- Educate users on best practices for data security and IT usage.
Documentation & Reporting
- Document technical issues, solutions, and troubleshooting processes for future reference.
- Maintain up-to-date records of system configurations, network diagrams, and user requests.
- Provide regular reports to the IT Manager on support issues and resolutions.
User Training & Support
- Offer training and guidance to end-users on the effective use of hardware, software, and IT systems.
- Create user guides and provide one-on-one or group training as needed.
- Assist with onboarding new employees by setting up user accounts and explaining IT policies.
SKILLS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Matric Certificate
- Diploma in IT or equivalent
- Proven experience as an IT Support Technician or in a similar role.
- Proficiency with Windows and macOS
- Strong knowledge of networking principles, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Office 365, and other enterprise-level software.
- Basic server concepts and Active Directory user management
- Network infrastructure and security fundamentals
- IT service management principles and helpdesk systems
