Purpose of the Job
The Driver/Messenger is responsible for the safe transportation of people, documents, and goods within assigned areas. The successful candidate must follow all national road safety rules and procedures while ensuring that deliveries and collections are completed efficiently and securely.
The role also involves administrative support, record management, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and the National Archives Act.

Collect and deliver correspondence to and from government institutions

Verify and reconcile packages upon collection and delivery

Maintain accurate delivery records and logbooks

Obtain delivery signatures and receipts

Sort items according to efficient delivery routes

Ensure documents are delivered to Document Services in line with SOP

Plan routes effectively to maximise time and fuel efficiency
Administration

Monitor messenger service availability at all times

Ensure proper archiving of documents in line with RAF policies

Sort, classify, and file records correctly

Manage off-site record transfers and maintain logs

Maintain inventory of departmental records

Complete destruction registers for disposed records

Oversee postal services within the branch

Ensure efficient copying and binding services
Transport & Operations

Load and unload goods and materials

Transport staff and products securely

Identify and report vehicle mechanical or electrical faults
Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance

Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections

Ensure vehicles and office machinery remain in good working condition
Reporting

Report vehicle defects, accidents, and traffic violations

Maintain logbooks in line with Fleet Management Policy

Report unexpected delays

Monitor franking machine maintenance and report major faults immediately
Mail Processing

Receive and register incoming and outgoing correspondence

Sort and distribute mail appropriately

Prepare registered, Docex, and bulk mail

Record registered mail details

Declare and record monies received
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this Driver/Messenger position, applicants must have:

Matric / Grade 12 certificate

Valid Code 10 (EC1/EC) driver’s license

Professional Driver’s Permit (PDP)

At least 1 year of experience in a driving or messenger services environment
